New bicycle specific insurance launched called mybikeCOVER

After the launch of mybikeREGO in August 2011, we realised there was no many options for dedicated bicycle insurance for cyclists in Australia and home and contents insurance just didn’t offer the level of cover needed for most cyclists. This had to change. So, in conjunction with Theo Grobler, a cycling enthusiast, and The Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd, a company with several bike-crazy individuals, we developed mybikeCOVER.

Because mybikeCOVER was designed for cycling enthusiasts by cycling enthusiasts, we understand the nature of risks that cyclists face whether on a weekend training ride, commuting to work, exploring the outdoors or going for a PB on a big race day. At mybikeCOVER we aim to give you bicycle insurance with no surprises. The information that we send you about your cover is simple and straightforward, making it easy for you to understand what is included in your cover and what isn't. And if you have questions about your cover, just ring us on 1300 277 002 and we'll help you out.

Some tips for people riding to work for the first time:

  • Make sure your bicycle is roadworthy. Get it checked at your local bicycle store if you're unsure.
  • Plan your route using one of the many cycling maps available from Councils and libraries. Try to stick to dedicated cycleways and quieter roads. Consider trying out the route on a weekend beforehand.
  • Make sure the distance does not exceed your fitness level. If you think it is too far, you might consider doing part of the journey by car or public transport.
  • Take a change of clothes to work the day before.

The North Sydney Ride to Work Day Breakfast is being hosted by North Sydney Council as part of the 2011 Sydney Rides Festival.

Join us in Federation Square for the Melbourne Ride to Work day

On Wednesday 12 October, over one hundred and fifty thousand Australian workers are expected to join the commuter revolution and ride to work. Will you?

Ride 2 Work Day

It's the perfect opportunity for you to have a go at riding to work. Whether you are a new or existing commuter, by participating in Ride to Work Day and registering to make your ride count, you make an important contribution to building the case for better bike facilities in your community.

In 2010, more than 105,000 people participated in Ride to Work Day across Australia (three times as many as registered!). Five months later, 43% of those new registered riders were still riding to work.

Join the commuter revolution and make your ride count. It's fast, free and makes a difference.

mybikeREGO is proud to be supporting this initiative. Please visit our stall in federation square to register your bicycles with us.

We hope to see you there

Welcome to mybikeREGO

Welcome to mybikeREGO, the first truly online bicycle registration system in Australia. We are excited about the opportunity to launch this service to all Australian cyclists and truly hope that it proves to be a mechanism to enhance rider safety and improves the number of stolen bikes being returned to their rightful owners.

We are in the early stages of launching this service however we aim to constantly evolve and enhance it based on ongoing feedback received by our customers and ultimately providing you with greater value. To give you some insight into how the system works:

- All state and federal police authorities have the ability to register instantly to gain access to our database of users
- Through their secure portal they can search bicycle owners by mybikeREGO unique tag number, serial number, bike make and model etc and will gain access to a read only view of your data so they can make contact with you
- You have the ability to login at any time to update your personal details, emergency contacts and bicycle characteristics
- You can also update the status of your bike so for e.g. if it is stolen when the police login they will see the bike is listed as stolen

Some additional features already under development:

- Google maps integration so you can see graphically where all bikes have been reported stolen
- General bike search function so the general public can search the status of a bike in case they are looking to purchase through eBay, trading post etc - no personal details will be revealed with this search
- Barcode integration with ID tags so people can use smart phones to check the status of bicycles registered with mybikeREGO
- New packages to include basic or comprehensive cycling insurance

We thank you for your and hope that you constantly provide us with constructive feedback on our service so we can continue to innovate and add value to the cycling community!

Happy Cycling!
